Laleston Cottage 1992

The Historic Laleston Cottage was a grand thatched roof building situated in Wind Street behind St Davids Church, this picture was taken in 1992.
Unfortunately in the early hours (4:30) of the 27th of March 2000 this building was destroyed by fire which started in the roof, the following pictures capture this devastating event. No one was injured in the blaze as the owners were away at the time.

The fire was attended by 12 officers who donned special breathing apparatus to protect them against the acrid smoke as the team battled the flames, but despite their best efforts most of the cottage had been destroyed.


During the demolition the contractors unearthed a solid stone chair which is thought to be of ceremonial significance.  This picture was taken on the 11th October 2007.

In 1919 Laleston Cottage Estate Bridgend was up for auction by Mr Richard Thomas at Bridgend on Saturday the 9th of August 1919 at 3pm. The documents below show what parts of the estate were for sale.
